{"id":16634,"date":"2024-05-21T12:02:14","date_gmt":"2024-05-21T12:02:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hostvento.com\/kb\/web-hosting\/how-to-enable-or-disable-ssh-shell-access-for-end-users-in-whm\/"},"modified":"2024-06-17T03:27:34","modified_gmt":"2024-06-17T03:27:34","slug":"how-to-enable-or-disable-ssh-shell-access-for-end-users-in-whm","status":"publish","type":"docs","link":"https:\/\/www.hostvento.com\/kb\/docs\/hosting-faqs\/how-to-enable-or-disable-ssh-shell-access-for-end-users-in-whm\/","title":{"rendered":"How To Enable Or Disable SSH\/Shell Access For End Users In WHM?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Certain users may have Shell access while others may not, depending on the specific packages you have configured for your user accounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can manage Shell Access (SSH) for the <a href=\"http:\/\/secure.hostvento.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">web hosting<\/span><\/strong><\/a> accounts you establish on your server by following the instructions in this article.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Steps For Enabling SSH:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Login to WHM.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the \u2018Account Functions\u2019 section, click on the option \u2013 \u2018Modify an Account\u2019.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the user account for which you want to enable SSH and click on the option \u2018Modify\u2019.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the check box for the option \u2018Shell Access\u2019.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on \u2018Save\u2019.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A pop-up window will be displayed that will provide you with the options like setting up a new package with the selected values, to update the current package, to set the account with no package or to keep the account with the existing package. Click on the suitable option and click on \u2018Proceed\u2019.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When the process is completed, a success message will be displayed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your next step is to ensure that SSH is enabled for this user account in the WHM \u2018Feature Manager\u2019 as well. You will find the SSH option under the Packages section.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the list that you want to change and click on the \u2018Edit\u2019 option. This will direct you to a page with available features. Locate the SSH Access feature and make sure it is ticked.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on the \u2018Save\u2019.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>After completing this process, the user for whom you have enabled the SSH option will be able to directly manage it through cPanel &gt; SSH\/Shell Access that is located in the \u2018Security\u2019 section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SSH\/Shell Access will enable the user to create, import and manage SSH keys that are used for SSH authentication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Disabling SSH<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Login to WHM.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the \u2018Account Functions\u2019 section, click on the option \u2013 \u2018Modify an Account\u2019.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the user account for which you want to enable SSH and click on the option \u2018Modify\u2019.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Uncheck \u2018Shell Access\u2019.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on \u2018Save\u2019.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make sure that you disable the Shell option from the Feature Manager as well.
