Multi-purpose Internet Mail Extensions is what MIME stands for. A common method for categorizing file formats on the Internet is called MIME formats. In order to transport files in the same manner regardless of the operating system being used, web servers and browsers keep track of MIME Types.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MIME Types has 2 parts, type & sub-type which are separated by a slash (\/). Together, the complete MIME type is application\/msword<\/strong>. MIME types tell browsers how to handle specific extensions. For example, the text\/html MIME type equates to .htm<\/strong>, .html<\/strong>, and .shtml<\/strong> extensions on most servers, and this tells your browser to interpret all files with those extensions as HTML files. You can alter or add new MIME types specifically for your site (note that you can not alter the system defined MIME type values). MIME types are often used to handle new technologies as they appear. When WAP technology first appeared no one had these extensions set up on their server. With MIME types, however, you could have set it up yourself and begun serving WAP pages immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1.<\/strong> Login to your cPanel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2.<\/strong> Click on MIME Types<\/strong> under Advance<\/strong> section.<\/p>\n\n\n

System MIME Types that are installed on the server or system will be displayed. On the server, you are also able to upload your own custom ones. Under User Defined MIME Types, they will be mentioned. Put your own under the headline “Create A MIME Type” along with the MIME Type and its extension to add your own. For instance, Microsoft Word files have the application MIME type and the msword sub-type.<\/p>\n\n\n

With Plesk<\/strong> control panel, select the domains for which you need to enable them. Under the group Files, look for an option Virtual Directories. Select the Tab MIME Types to add them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
