Disqus History
Disqus was started in the middle of 2007 by Jason Yan and Daniel Ha. Having known each other since the seventh grade, Ha and Yan started working on Disqus while attending the University of California. Before it developed into the commenting platform, Disqus was only a unique domain registration.
The Disqus team applied to Y Combinator, a business incubator, and was approved. Many well-known businesses have been launched with assistance from Y Combinator, including Dropbox, DoorDash, Stripe, Airbnb, and more. Thanks to Y Combinator, Disqus was able to raise $10 million in investment by May 2011. Disqus was the third-party commenting system of choice for 3/4 of websites in 2011. Zeta Global purchased Disqus in December 2017.
