Addon Domain Vs. Parked Domain
How is an addon domain different from a parked domain?
Addon Domain
You may add an extra feature to your web hosting service, such as an addon domain. You may have many separate websites that share the resources of your web hosting service by using addon domains. Created via your control panel, the addon domain is a fully working domain. Using the addon domain, you may create a new website that is hosted in a separate folder within your hosting account. This allows you to host several domains from your control panel. The addon domain can be used in the same manner as the parent domain, including forwarders and email addresses.
When you create an addon domain:
- A new folder is generated in the public_html directory.
- A subdomain is created for the main primary domain and it is attached to the new folder.
- The new domain name is connected with the subdomain.
For instance, if the primary domain is – ‘mywebsitename.com’ and you assign the addon domain – ‘mywebsiteblog’ to the folder ‘mywebsitename’, the following routes/URLs will be applicable:
- com/mywebsiteblog
- mywebsitename.com
- com
All the three URLs mentioned above will access the same directory and point to the same website. This automatically happens when you assign an addon domain to your account. There is no further action required apart from adding the necessary content to the addon domain.
Parked Domain
An alias for the main domain is a parked domain. The principal domain and the parked domain both go to the same webpage. This is the idea of using the same website across several domains.
You can purchase yourwebsite.net and designate it as a parked domain, for instance, if yourwebsite.com is your main website. The visitor will view the identical webpage as they would have on yourwebsite.com in this scenario if they decide to visit yourwebsite.net.
In theory, the URLs parkeddoamin.com/index.htm and yourprimarydomain.com/index.htm will go to the identical page, index.htm.
